Young Professionals of Wichita
     Staff:   Jessica Rajtar       268-1171

When research from the Visioneering Wichita process revealed that each young adult who leaves the Wichita area costs $300,000 in lost investment, Chamber staff realized the pressing need to immediately enter the fierce, global competition for young professionals in our community. Young Professionals of Wichita was launched in June 2005, with a vision of making Wichita the Heartland's destination for young intellectual capital. With membership of nearly 2,000 and growing, this organization is comprised of bright, energetic "YPs" who promise to be extremely instrumental in the growth of Wichita over the coming years.

The Visioneering Wichita plan incorporates the thoughtful ideas and conversations of more than 12,000 residents of south central Kansas, culminating in a dynamic vision for incredible growth in this region by 2024.

Some top goals of this process include:

  • Providing citizens, public and private organizations with the opportunity to adopt shared values, benchmarks, vision and strategies to use in developing our future
  • Facilitating communications within the community so that reality and perceptions are in alignment
  • Creating a strategic plan to ensure a quality of life that encourages our young people to live, learn, work and play in our regional community

Leadership Wichita

Staff: Gerald Holman    268-1118
Realizing that committed, knowledgeable leaders are invaluable to a community, the Chamber created Leadership Wichita to identify, inform and inspire local achievers to take increasingly significant roles in the community. Since Leadership Wichita was introduced in 1983, hundreds of local graduates have committed to become stronger leaders for our community. Click here for a printable brochure on Leadership Wichita.

Those interested in participating must be nominated by another person and then submit an application. A committee selects 24 individuals, who will attend sessions from September through November. Sessions focus on developing leadership skills and introducing community issues.

Nominations for the Leadership Wichita 2008 class are being accepted until June 13, 2008. Contact Gerald Holman to receive more information about this intensive leadership development program.
